ABOUT THE Session
Since they began in 1984, TED talks have become a household name. From the funny “How to Tie Your Shoes” talk by Terry Moore to the thought-provoking “Power of Vulnerability” talk by Brene Brown, TED talks have entertained and inspired many of us, leaving an indelible impression and racking up hundreds of millions of views.
In our professional lives, where we have to influence and persuade others, are there lessons we can learn from the best TED speakers? Are there specific communication techniques that TED speakers use on stage that can help us increase our own charisma and impact when speaking up or presenting at work?
This class will show you how.
Working from a highlight reel of some memorable TED talks, this session will spotlight - and break down - specific communication techniques TED speakers use on stage to change minds and hearts.
From personal storytelling to the use of point of view, we’ll pull back the curtain on what makes TED talks great, providing you with techniques you can use the next time you have to speak up at work - whether you’re giving a Town Hall presentation on stage or just a weekly project update to your peers.
what you’ll learn
A four-step process that many TED speakers use to create their talks;
Why TED speakers often tailor their talk to a specific subset of a large audience;
The importance of building your presentation around a point of view, not a topic;
How to use the power of personal storytelling to keep your listeners engaged;
Why it can be more powerful to invite listeners to take a small next step rather than a big one.
OPTIONAL LEARNING LAB WORKSHOP AVAILABLE
Looking to offer participants a hands-on experience after they take this class? Our Learning Lab add-on class may be just the thing. Learning Labs give participants a chance to bring in their own content and practice key skills for instructor feedback. So that we can offer a personalized experience, we limit the number of attendees who can join each Learning Lab. Each participant will be asked to complete some light “pre-work” beforehand so they come to the session warmed up and ready to go.
